In early May, two of our team travelled to Germany to attend the most important worldwide trade show for the timber and woodworking industry - Ligna 2013.

Now in its 20th year, Ligna provides a showcase for the latest timber innovations and acts as a global meeting place for those working in the wood industry.

In addition to trade stands displaying the best in wood-machining technology, there are always plenty of showpieces to admire. British Hardwoods MD Tony Fillingham and a rather lovely timber sports car.

Flooring machinist, Jason Fearnley, trialling an innovative motorbike/log saw combo.

Tony and Jason were accompanied on the trip by Simon Bridge (above) from Weinig. Weinig is the leading manufacturer of wood-working machinery for the solid wood processing industry.

Of particular interest to us, Weinig's latest innovation, the Cube, is a planing machine which will machine up to 260mm wide and automatically sets to the size of the timber workpiece.

Although not quite in our line of business, other interesting machinery on display at Ligna was the iCarver, a revolutionary carving system for image carving and router carving.

An innovative stair railing routing system by CF Scheer & Cie, Stuttgart.

Stacked tooling for window manufacture.

Tony and Jason also spent some time on the Mafell stand. Built by professionals for professionals, Mafell tools offer high-torque, high-speed motors, sturdy design, supreme precision and outstanding durability. To view our range of Mafell tools and accessories click here >>

Tony and Jason found the trip extremely rewarding, highlighting the importance of keeping abreast of the latest changes in wood-machining technology, and ensuring that British Hardwoods remains at the forefront of UK hardwood timber manufacturing.
