Dark Engineered Wood Flooring
Dark engineered wood flooring is one of the latest interior design trends and can be used to complement traditional interiors and existing dark wood furniture. Alternatively, a dark wood floor can provide a stunning contrast to neutral décor and and lighter furnishings.
Our fumed engineered oak floors are chemically reacted with ammonia to achieve a rich dark oak colour that would take several lifetimes to develop naturally. Fuming wood floors has an advantage over staining in that the fuming process does not obscure the grain, it just darkens it. Each floorboard will react differently to the fuming process, thus replicating the natural range of colour tones of an unfumed floor. Every fumed floor we make will contain a spread of colour tones ranging from medium to dark oak shades.
Fuming is not an exact science, every board and every batch of timber will react differently to the fuming process depending on the tannins (acids) present in the oak. Therefore every fumed engineered oak floor will be completely unique and the wood will not have a uniform colour. Photographs on the website and samples are provided for guidance only - we cannot guarantee an exact colour match. If you prefer a dark wood floor with a uniform tone, or have a specific shade in mind we always recommend the use of a stain rather than fuming.
