English Burr Elm
Our selected English burr elm boards are unique pieces, specially selected for their particular character and appeal. The timber is sourced from FSC certified forests in the UK and kiln dried and planed at our premises here in Yorkshire
English burr elm is often used for cabinetmaking, chair making, including Windsor chairs, bent components, coffins, dock and harbour work, flooring (including parquet), decorative veneers and weatherboarding. It was formerly the wood of choice for wheel hubs, water pipes and pumps.
The heartwood is a reddish brown and is clearly differentiated from the sapwood when freshly cut. It has cross and irregular grain, which results in an attractive figure. The wood is coarse textured, with prominent and annual rings.
Our website showcases just a very small collection of our beautiful native hardwoods. Our full range of timbers can be seen at our new wood shop near the Yorkshire Dales.
