Solid Oak Window Board / Shelf
A solid oak board suitable for use as a window board or shelf, manufactured from sustainably sourced prime European Oak. The front edge of the board can be manufactured with a square edge profile, or can be machined with a bullnose if preferred (surcharge applies).
The timber is supplied unfinished (planed smooth but bare) ready for finishing on site. We can also manufacture boards to sizes in-between those listed. If you require a non-standard size, please contact us for availability and pricing.
Dependent on timber stocks at the time of manufacture, window boards wider than 220mm may be jointed. The joint is glued, clamped and then sanded smooth, resulting in a very neat and strong finished product.
European Oak has a light biscuit tone which displays natural grain and figuring and some small knots. Our boards are supplied unfinished (planed smooth but bare) ready to take a finish of your choice.
For window boards at ground-floor level we recommend using a damp proof membrane (visqueen) between the concrete base and the window sill to prevent moisture tracking through. The window sill can then be screwed to the concrete base and the holes filled with a cross-grain plug which gives a very neat finish.
Our timber is sourced from FSC certified saw mills in France, and is kiln-dried to an average moisture content of 8-10%. The timber is stored, before and after machining, in our heated and humidity controlled factory. On delivery, the boards should be taken straight indoors into a warm, dry, heated property and should not be stored anywhere that could affect the moisture content in the timber (e.g. garage or outbuilding).
We can machine matching skirting boards, architraves, door linings and floors. We can also machine planed-all-round timber for the manufacture of window casings and frames, however, the manufacture of full window frames is not something we are able to offer.
