Thin Wood European Oak Lamella Packs
A selection pack of 12 thin wood lamellas in European Oak. The packs consist of boards which are set aside during initial set-up of our band saw. The timber is a character grade, therefore, some boards will contain open knot holes, some figuring, splits and scatterings of pip, whilst other boards may have fewer knots.
Average board width 195mm in random thicknesses at around 2mm to 5.5mm. Typical board length is 1.2m. It is usual for the thin wood boards to display a slight curvature across the width due to the natural movement of the timber.
As these packs contain offcut pieces they are priced accordingly. Each pack will contain a spread of usable timber, however, some boards (and parts of boards) will contain defects such as machining marks, rough bark edges and large open knot holes and splits.
Our thin European Oak wood is sourced from FSC certified saw mills in France. The heartwood varies from light tan to biscuit or deep brown, with distinct bands of earlywood and latewood. The grain is usually straight, but irregular or cross grain can occur. Rays and growth rings show an attractive figuring ("silver grain") when quarter sawn.
Thin oak timber is often used for decorative veneers, model making, marquetry, intarsia, luthiery, furniture restoration and crafts.
