Using the correct products when fitting your new wood flooring is key to a successful installation. Whether you are laying a solid or engineered wood floor, we supply a full range of fixings, adhesives and underlays depending on your chosen fitting method.
The decision whether to mechanically fix, glue or float your new wood floor is likely to be dependent on your existing subfloor (i.e. what you are fitting onto). Our solid and engineered structural wood floors can be secret screwed or nailed onto joists or battens as a traditional load bearing floor. This mechanical fixing method can also be used for fitting on to an existing timber floor or any sound subfloor which is thick enough to adequately take a nail or screw, such as building grade chipboard. At ground floor level we always recommend the use of visqueen or building paper prior to fixing the floorboards.
Our solid and engineered wood floors can be glued directly on to a dry concrete subfloor using a high tensile MS polymer glue. The Taylor Timberline range has a high initial grab time and stays flexible allowing for the natural seasonal movement of the timber. We always recommend the use of Taylors NuFloor Concrete Barrier and encapsulator which acts as an effective adhesive key.
The floating method is usually used when laying our engineered wood floors by using TimberTech2 Silver underlay which provides an acoustic and damp-proof membrane. By running a small bead of PVA glue along the bottom of the groove joint, the boards can be simply pushed together and floated on top of the underlay, providing an extremely quick and easy installation. We must stress that although this method is suitable for floating engineered wood flooring, you should never, under any circumstances, glue the joints of a solid wood floor together. Our solid wood floors can be semi-floated using adhesive floor fitting foam underlay, we recommend placing a layer of building paper between the subfloor and the floor fitting foam.
Whichever fitting method you choose it is vital that correct damp-proof membranes are used prior to installation. We are happy to offer help and advice about which products to choose to ensure a quality long-lasting wood floor installation.
