Our Solid Oak Window Boards are manufactured from sustainably sourced character grade European Oak. If you prefer plenty of natural features like knots and pip, our character oak window boards offer a cost-effective alternative to prime oak. The knots can either be left open and rustic, or can be filled and sanded to a smooth finish, if preferred.
Most boards will be edge-jointed to achieve the width, with the staves running the full length of each section. Our joints are very neat and strong and sanded to a smooth, seamless finish.
For window boards at ground-floor level we recommend using a damp proof membrane (visqueen) between the concrete base and the window sill to prevent moisture tracking through. The window sill can then be screwed to the concrete base and the holes filled with a cross-grain plug which gives a very neat finish. The window boards should be finished with an appropriate sealant in a prompt timescale. Sealing the underside and end-grain of the boards will also help prevent moisture ingress.
Our timber is sourced from FSC certified saw mills in France and is kiln-dried to an average moisture content of 9-11%. The timber is stored, before and after machining, in our heated and humidity controlled factory. On delivery, the boards should be taken straight indoors into a warm, dry, heated property and should not be stored anywhere that could affect the moisture content in the timber (e.g. a garage or outbuilding).

Storage information
Our timber is kiln-dried and should not be stored in a cold, damp environment (e.g. garage, shed or outbuilding) where it could take on moisture. On arrival at your property, the packs should be taken straight indoors into a dry, heated building. All concrete, plaster and wet work should be fully dried out prior to storage and/or installation.
