Can you machine more sizes than those listed

Yes, we can machine many more sizes than those listed here. This is a Fast Track product and only shows a small selection of our planed oak products. Our full range can be found here Planed European Oak.

What lengths will be supplied?

Orders of more than 2 metres of any single size will be supplied in random lengths. These random lengths will typically be between 2.4 metres to 3 metres. However, there may be some shorter lengths supplied due to stock availability at the time of machining.

Is your timber FSC certified?

All the raw timber we use is sustainably sourced from sawmills that are either FSC or PEFC certified.

Where does your timber come from?

Our European Oak is sustainably sourced from the very best sawmills in France.

What is your lead time?

Our Fast Track Planed Oak is generally ready within the week.

How much is delivery?

The delivery charge depends on the total weight of the goods ordered and the delivery location. To calculate the delivery charge:

  1. Put all the goods you require into your shopping cart.
  2. Go to the shopping cart.
  3. Type your full delivery postcode in the 'Calculate Shipping' box and our website will calculate the accurate shipping charge for you.

Do you offer free delivery over a certain amount?

We feel that it is fairer and more honest to display delivery costs separately, rather than 'hide' them within the cost of our timber products. Transporting long lengths of timber around the UK is costly. The shipping price shown in the cart is the direct charge from the independent couriers we use.

Can I collect from your premises?

Yes – choose the “Customer Collect” option when placing your order. As soon your order is ready, we will contact you to let you know.

We use numerous ways to deliver our hardwood products all around the UK mainland. This includes delivery by our own vehicle (within a limited delivery scope), and also the use of independent couriers. The courier price is the direct charge from the couriers we use and is a weight-driven tariff based on the delivery location.

To calculate the delivery charge

  1. Put all the goods you require into your shopping cart.
  2. Go to the shopping cart.
  3. Type your full delivery postcode in the 'Calculate Shipping' box and our website will calculate the shipping method and the accurate shipping charge.

Courier delivery timescales

The time taken for delivery by courier can vary depending on location. When your order is complete, we will email you to inform you of despatch. The courier will then contact you when they have collected your order from us, to inform you of the expected delivery day.

Storage information

Our skirting boards and architraves are manufactured from solid kiln-dried timbers and should not be stored in a cold, damp environment (e.g. garage, shed or outbuilding). On arrival at your property, the packs should be taken straight indoors into a dry, heated building. All concrete, plaster and wet work should be fully dried out prior to storage and/or installation.

Properties
A fairly hard, heavy and dense hardwood, with high crushing and bending strength, low stiffness and resistance to shock loads. The heartwood varies from light tan to biscuit or deep brown, with distinct bands of earlywood and latewood. The grain is usually straight, but irregular or cross grain can occur including some small knots. Rays and growth rings show an attractive figuring ("silver grain") when quarter sawn. Preboring is advised for nailing and screwing, and a reduced planing angle is advised for irregular or cross-grained stock. Oak timber turns satisfactorily, is good for gluing, painting, sanding, staining and varnishing and will take high polish. European oak can be darkened by fuming with ammonia. Due to tannins present in the timber, oak wood will react with ferrous metals when wet. Select non-ferrous (brass or stainless steel) fixings where possible.

Durability
Extremely durable.

Typical Uses
Oak timber is often used for furniture and cabinetmaking, quality joinery including church pews and pulpits, office furniture, kitchen cabinets, flooring (including parquet), coffins, boats and harbour work, truck bodies, cooperage for wines, cognac and beer. Planed oak timber is sliced for decorative veneers and rotary-cut to make plywood.
