A pack of 10 thin oak boards manufactured from solid European Oak. Each board is 1.2m long x 197mm wide and sanded to a 2mm thickness. The timber is mixed character grade and some boards will contain open knots, splits and scatterings of pip, whilst other boards will be clear with only the occasional small knot.
The boards are sanded on one face only; if you require machine planed, prime grade timber, please see our range of Planed All Round Oak.
Please note: It is usual for the thin wood boards to display a slight curvature across the width due to the natural movement of the timber.
Our thin European Oak is sustainably sourced from the best saw mills in Northern France and machined at our factory here in Yorkshire. The boards could be used for a multitude of purposes, e.g. interior cladding, woodworking, model making, decorative veneers, laser cutting, and crafts such as marquetry, intarsia and luthiery.
Properties
A fairly hard, heavy and dense hardwood, with high crushing and bending strength, low stiffness and resistance to shock loads. It is very good for turning and steam-bending. It is suitable for gluing, painting, sanding, staining and varnishing and will take high polish. European oak can be darkened by fuming with ammonia. Due to tannins present in the timber, oak wood will react with ferrous metals when wet. Select non-ferrous (brass or stainless steel) fixings where possible.
Durability
Extremely durable.
Typical Uses
Thin oak timber is often used by hobbyists for decorative veneers and crafting.

Storage information
Our timber is kiln-dried and should not be stored in a cold, damp environment (e.g. garage, shed or outbuilding) where it could take on moisture. On arrival at your property, the packs should be taken straight indoors into a dry, heated building. All concrete, plaster and wet work should be fully dried out prior to storage and/or installation.
