Our highly prized and unusual European Brown Oak Flooring has a very distinctive tiger stripe patterning across the boards. This patterning is a natural phenomenon which occurs during the lifecycle of the tree and is caused by the action of the beefsteak fungus which attaches itself to the base of the tree as it grows. The growth of the fungus is not detrimental to the tree at all, but causes an intruiging, random darkening of the timber. Boards from the base of the tree will be full dark chocolate brown, with patterning becoming more random and stripy midway up. Boards from higher up the tree will be a light tan/biscuit colour with less patterning. We recommend loose laying boards before fixing to achieve an even spread of the variegated tones and patterns.
All the raw timber we use is sourced from either PEFC or FSC certfied suppliers. The timber is kiln-dried to a moisture content of 8-10% and kept at an ambient temperature in our heated and humidity controlled factory. All our wood floors are manufactured to order, from the same batch of timber. We pre-plane the boards before final machining which results in accurately machined floorboards which are extremely straight, flat and a pleasure to fit. Mass produced imported floors are not made, or quality controlled, to the same high standards as a British Hardwoods wood floor.

- European Brown Oak Fooring
Just to say we are delighted with our new wooden floors in European Brown Oak. Our joiners said they loved the quality; very straightforward to lay - using the Tongue-Tite Tongue & Groove Wood Flooring Screws. We scored a couple of planks when we were replacing our furniture and they were able to replace these no bother. Our joiners commented that usually they have to discard planks for various reasons, but with British Hardwoods the only reason they discarded any planks was to make sure juxtapositioning of planks with the different colours of the European Brown Oak was looking good. We took a trip down to Keighley to see the wood before we bought and were very impressed by the whole factory and showroom. Our order was delivered exactly as stated on ordering and everything great! Thanks for all the help we were given in choosing our wood and in placing the order.
