Details
Our Fumed and Brushed Provincial European Oak is a stunning textured, fumed oak floor. The boards have a rich dark tone and contain a fair amount of natural figuring and an abundance of splits, checks and large knots up to 75mm in diameter, which are filled and sanded smooth as standard. If you wish to have the knots left open, please contact our Sales Office who will be happy to discuss this with you. Due to its rich rustic appearance it is a popular choice for country cottages, barn conversions and commercial applications such as pubs, restaurants, churches and museums.
* IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT FUMING: Fuming is a chemical process which darkens the oak in a natural way - and is provided as an alternative to staining. Different boards and different batches of timber will react differently to the fuming process, and as such the wood will not have a uniform colour. Photographs on the website and samples are provided for guidance only - we can not guarantee an exact colour match. If you wish to obtain a uniform dark tone we recommend the use of a stain rather than fuming.
All the raw timber we use is sourced from either PEFC or FSC certfied suppliers. The timber is kiln-dried to a moisture content of 8-10% and kept at an ambient temperature in our heated and humidity controlled factory. All our wood floors are manufactured to order, from the same batch of timber. We pre-plane the boards before final machining which results in accurately machined floorboards which are extremely straight, flat and a pleasure to fit. Mass produced imported floors are not made, or quality controlled, to the same high standards as a British Hardwoods wood floor.

- Great quality, characterful flooring
-
We purchased this flooring to make a slightly more modern extension room more in keeping with the rest of our 250 year old Cotswold cottage. Having seen the finished/fitted product we very happy we selected this flooring. The grain, knots and colour variations give warmth and character to the room. Boards were very easy to lay, were consistent in width and thickness and the tongue and groove had a nice snug fit (especially with the hidden screws supplied).
Price Quality Value - Fitting was a breeze

After lifting our cottage's aged floorboards, we required a similar look, but with modern materials that would be easier to clean and maintain. After receiving samples from the industry's leading suppliers (mostly 'high-end' Scandinavian manufacturers), we were loathe to pay such ridiculous premiums for essentially 'engineered' veneers. We stumbled upon British Hardwoods, and asked for samples. When they arrived, we were suitably impressed. We decided to order the Provincial Fumed Oak boards, in keeping with the aged look of our cottage, and then waited anxiously for a few weeks whilst it went into production. On delivery, we were genuinely surprised with the overall quality. The fuming had emphasised the patina dramatically, which has since been further enhanced after a few coats of Osmo Oil (we have opted for a flat matt finish which makes the floor look older and less 'renovated'). Our fitter commented on the quality and was surprised when we revealed the price per sqm! He even tested random boards for moisture content, with the average around the 7% mark (the highest he found was 8.1%). Fitting was a breeze, with little (if any) warping, even on the longest boards. Tongue and grooves were also consistently snug, allowing us to randomly 'gap' boards to achieve a more reclaimed look. Since fitting, we have lost count as to how many comments we have had from visitors and guests. Overall, it's safe to say that we will definitely be using this company for future projects....
