Quick Overview

Our Thin American Black Walnut is manufactured from prime grade hardwood timber and sanded on one face. The timber is supplied in random lengths, which vary depending on stock availability at the time of manufacture.

Please note: The timber is sawn and then sanded on one face only and is not machine planed. If you require fully planed, square edge timber please see our range of Planed All Round American Black Walnut. It is normal for thin wood to display a slight curvature across the width due to the natural movement of the timber.

Our thin black walnut timber is sourced from the USA and machined to order in our factory here in Yorkshire. The boards are sawn and then sanded on one face and are suitable for woodworking, furniture making, model making and crafts such as marquetry, intarsia and luthiery. The timber can range from light brown to dark chocolate and purplish black with a creamy coloured sapwood. The slightly open grain is typically straight but can be curly or wavy.

Properties
It turns, carves, mortises, nails, screws, sands and paints well. Gluing is satisfactory. It stains and polishes easily to a high finish.

Durability
Highly durable and resistant to decay.

Typical Uses
A prized cabinetmaking wood, it is also the chosen wood in the US for gunstocks and rifle butts. It is also used for quality furniture, architectural work, flooring, boat building, musical instruments, turning, carving, office furniture, kitchen cabinets, sporting goods, and umbrella handles. It is sliced for decorative veneers and is an important wood for making plywood. The tree also produces edible nuts.
