Our Tradition Aged Oak floor lends rich, rustic charm to any period property. Newly machined oak boards are passed through our custom-made distressing machine which imparts random indentations to the surface and edges. The boards are then wire brushed which raises the grain of the timber and adds texture to the surface. Lastly, the boards are fumed, a chemical process which darkens the timber. Each board will react differently to the fuming process, producing a natural range of dark, medium and lighter shades; we recommend loose laying boards before fixing to achieve an even spread of tones. Knots, checks and splits are filled and sanded smooth as standard, however, if you wish to have the knots left open, please contact our Sales Office.
All the raw timber we use is sourced from either PEFC or FSC certfied suppliers. The timber is kiln-dried to a moisture content of 8-10% and kept at an ambient temperature in our heated and humidity controlled factory. All our wood floors are manufactured to order, from the same batch of timber. We pre-plane the boards before final machining which results in accurately machined floorboards which are extremely straight, flat and a pleasure to fit. Mass produced imported floors are not made, or quality controlled, to the same high standards as a British Hardwoods wood floor.

- Superior quality and finish
-
After a mistake buying flooring on the internet and it not being what we expected even though we paid a premium price, we decided to make sure that for our second room we got it right, so visited the British Hardwoods factory to see the flooring before buying to make sure we weren't going to be disappointed a second time. The flooring is superior in quality and finish and well worth the extra cost of having it made to order in the UK. Skirting was ordered at the same time and we were asked straight away whether the skirting should be fumed as well as the flooring. Delivery was within 3 weeks by British Hardwoods own delivery van. The product looks fantastic down and with the matched skirting transforms our dining room. All in all a pleasant experience.
