Tradition Aged Oak Solid Wood Flooring
A stunning rustic dark oak floor which has been distressed and wire brushed to achieve an authentic aged appearance. The boards contain an abundance of splits, checks and large knots up to 75mm in diameter, which are filled and sanded smooth as standard; if you wish to have the knots left open, please contact our Sales Office. The boards can be supplied with an optional hardwax oil finish or supplied unoiled - ready to take a finish of your own choice.
Our wide board floors are supplied in single width wide boards (i.e. each board will be the same width). The width supplied can vary, depending on timber availability at the time of machining, but is typically between 175mm and 200mm. The length of the boards are usually between 1.2m and 2.5m, but some may be supplied longer or shorter than that, depending on raw timber stocks at the time of machining.
Important note: Fuming is a chemical process which darkens the wood in a natural way. Different boards and different batches of timber will react differently to the fuming process, and as such, photographs on the website, and samples, are provided as a guide to tone only, and are not an exact colour match.
Our Tradition Aged Oak floor lends rich, rustic charm to any period property. Newly machined oak boards are passed through our custom-made distressing machine which imparts random indentations to the surface and edges. The boards are then wire brushed which raises the grain of the timber and adds texture to the surface. Lastly, the boards are fumed, a chemical process which darkens the timber. Each board will react differently to the fuming process, producing a natural range of dark, medium and lighter shades; we recommend loose laying boards before fixing to achieve an even spread of tones. Knots, checks and splits are filled and sanded smooth as standard, however, if you wish to have the knots left open, please contact our Sales Office.
All the raw timber we use is sourced from either PEFC or FSC certfied suppliers. The timber is kiln-dried to a moisture content of 8-10% and kept at an ambient temperature in our heated and humidity controlled factory. All our wood floors are manufactured to order, from the same batch of timber. We pre-plane the boards before final machining which results in accurately machined floorboards which are extremely straight, flat and a pleasure to fit. Mass produced imported floors are not made, or quality controlled, to the same high standards as a British Hardwoods wood floor.
