We are pleased to announce an exciting new venture for British Hardwoods starting early in the New Year. As part of our ongoing expansion, we have allocated space for a fully equipped teaching area, and have teamed up with experienced tutor Chris Tribe, who will be running a series of weekend woodwork courses, here at our premises in Yorkshire.

Tool Sharpening and Maintenance Course

Two day weekend courses at British Hardwoods School of Woodwork

The courses are aimed at the beginner woodworker and will focus on hand tools, covering the basic techniques such as tool sharpening and maintenance, basic jointing and dovetailing. The courses provide a firm foundation in the essentials of woodworking; sharp tools, precise measuring and marking technique, accurate sawing and planing, and the development of a meticulous approach. From this basis, sound woodworking technique can be built. Mixing this with the “woody” environment at British Hardwoods should make the courses an interesting and stimulating experience.

Basic Skills Course

Chris has been making furniture since 1975 and became a professional designer/maker in 1990. After many years experience teaching evening classes at Loxley College in Sheffield,  Huddersfield Technical College and then at Leeds College of Art and Design, Chris started teaching small groups in his own workshop. The popularity of his courses has meant that Chris now spends a good deal more of his time teaching than making, and we are pleased to be collaborating with him on this exciting new project.
