Sawn Prime American Ash (per cubic foot)
Our Rough Sawn American Ash Timber is supplied by the cubic foot in full sized boards. The boards are supplied in random widths, typically between 90mm and 200mm, but this can vary depending on our timber stocks at the time of placement of order. The board lengths tend to be around 2.4 metres to 3 metres, but again can vary. If you wish to place an order, please contact us to obtain a current guide to stock availability.
If you require timber in specific widths or with a fully planed finish, we would recommend our planed all round ash timber.
Please Note: It is to be expected that the sawn boards will display watermarking due to the kiln drying process. This completely natural phenomenon occurs as the water dries out from the timber. This natural surface marking, along with any other marks, will be removed when you plane and/or sand the boards.
Guide to Cubic Foot Calculation:
An average 3m x 5" x 1" board equates to 0.35 cubic foot
Our Rough Sawn Prime Ash Timber is sourced from the very best sawmills in North America. The timber is a prime grade though may contain some knots. The timber will also have splits due to the kiln-drying process. Knots and splits in rough sawn stock are not considered defects because good cutting can be achieved around these natural features. The boards are carefully stored in our heated and acclimatised factory giving an average moisture content of between 9-11%.

Properties
The wood is elastic, tough and strong relative to its weight and has good stiffness and hardness. Shock resistance is very good. It works well with machine hand tools but has a moderate blunting effect. The harder species need preboring for nailing and screwing. It polishes, stains and glues well.
Durability
Slightly harder than oak although not as durable.
Typical Uses
Used for quality furniture, interior joinery, boat building and built-in kitchens. Other uses include sports equipment such as oars, paddles, bats and cues, and handles for workshop and garden tools. It is also a good source of decorative veneers.
